Overview
SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol) is a method of document transmission which allows LBMX clients to access a directory and sub-directories, download inbound documents from, and upload outbound documents to a remote server via an SFTP Client. LBMX provides a directory for storing documents, as well as log-in credentials for accessing this directory. Customers should already have access to an SFTP Client.
LBMX SFTP Connection Information
This is the high level details needed to connect to LBXM via SFTP
Host Name: ftp.lbmx.com
Port: 22
Username/Password: Your username and password will be provided by our support team using a secure, one time use link. Please contact support@lbmx.com or your assigned analyst for further information.
Upload documents subdirectory: Put outbound documents into the "out/<doctype>" directory (e.g. out/810 for invoices)
Download documents subdirectory: Retrieve inbound documents from the "in/<doctype>" directory (e.g. in/850 for POs). Once files have been downloaded, move them to the arc folder or delete them.
IP Address: If you require the IP address to be whitelisted in your system, please use 64.130.215.147. Please note that we prefer the DNS name is used when setting up any connection as this will allow the connection to continue if we need to switch to backup servers in case of a major (unlikely) server failure.
LBMX does not block connections based on IP address so no whitelisting is required on our end.
Key Differences Between FTP and SFTP
- FTP does not provide a secure channel to transfer the files between the hosts, whereas the SFTP protocol provides a secure channel for transferring the files between the hosts on the network
- FTP is an abbreviation of File Transfer Protocol whereas, SFTP is an abbreviation of Secure File Transfer Protocol.
- FTP protocol is a service provided by TCP/IP. However, SFTP is a part of the SSH protocol which is remote login information
- FTP transfer the password and data in the plain text format, whereas SFTP encrypts the data before sending it to another host
How to log into an SFTP account
The LBMX client requires an SFTP client application (software) to communicate to the LBMX SFTP file server.
LBMX provides the following:
-
-
- a client username
- a client password
- the URL address to the LBMX SFTP site
- the port required for secure file transfer
-
Here is an example of a client application login setup:
Sample email sent with instructions for connecting to the LBMX SFTP server
Hi TestUSR,
LBMX is setting up the EDI implementation project between the GROUP and TestUSR Inc. via SFTP, through which TestUSR Inc. will send invoices and receive purchase orders. I have attached a listing of GROUPNAME members, for your reference.
Please set up GROUPNAME 's trading partner ID (Receiver ID) to be "GROUPISAID." If you will send a different value as the Receiver ID on their invoices, please advise of the value you will send so I can update our system accordingly.
The GROUPNAME supplier number for your organization is 1234.
Here is the information you need to send invoices via ftp to GROUPNAME:
- Use your ftp software to connect to host ftp.lbmx.com, port 22
- Log in using your username and password provided
- Create the invoices in GROUPNAME’s pre-defined file format
- Put outbound documents into the "out/<doctype>" directory (e.g. out/810 for invoices). This is the only directory from which we will retrieve your outgoing files to process. Placing files in any other directory will result in the file not being processed or delivered
- Retrieve inbound documents from the "in/<doctype>" directory (e.g. in/850 for POs) only if you are receiving docs from the group
LBMX will send the above in an email once we have the set-up completed, and you can begin testing.
If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact our EDI Implementation Team at edisupport@lbmx.com.
SFTP Client application software options
Use whichever application is preferred. LBMX does not recommend or offer support for any specific SFTP/FTP client software.
As an example, this is the set up and use of the SFTP/FTP client application FileZilla.
1. Set up the connection in Site Manager
2. Select New Site
3. In the New Site:
- add the host name ftp.lbmx.com
- select the protocol (should be SFTP – SSH File Transfer Protocol)
- add 22 as the Port
- change the Logon Type to Normal
- enter the username and password provided by LBMX
- click the OK button
4. Rename the “New Site” if preferred. Once the OK button is clicked, the New Site is saved
5. To access the new site, click on the drop-down arrow beside Site Manager. If there are multiple sites set up, they are displayed here
6. The site opens a remote connection displaying the directories that may be accessed
